In fact, people can become their own private investigators by becoming a member of companies that provide access to compiled records for a very low cost. Companies provide this access mostly for the US, Canada and the United Kingdom.

 

People can find out anything about anyone, from the confines and comfort of their own home, substantially cheaper that the cost of hiring private investigators.  It is important to note that the data provided by companies that charge for their service is mainly for the ease of use and the convenience aspect of the access to the information, all of which, can also be done for free, but which can be very time consuming and often frustrating. The details that can be obtained through paid services is the same as those sought by various investigative agencies, law enforcement and governments, the difference being the ease of looking things up for very low membership fee.

Employee Background Check?
I am a senior in college and I recently received a job offer from a good insurance company in Boston. Over the summer, I was arrested for domestic assault and battery but the whole situation was exaggerated, my parents never pressed charges, and the case was "generally continued" in Massachusetts. That basically means it goes away in six months (Feb. '09). In September, I was arrested for public intoxication at a football game and entered a pretrial diversion program. I paid the fees and did the community service and the case was dismissed. I was never convicted of anything, and I never had to lie on my job application, but I am worried about the results of the background check. Do you think I will lose my job offer?

Felony was dropped to a misdemeanor but what will show up on an employee background check?
About four years ago, I was convicted of a felony but it was reduced to a misdemeanor after a year's probation. What will show up on an employee background check? Will it just state I have a misdemeanor? And if so, will the cause of arrest remain the same?

Employee background check - Education Verification?
My prospective employer ran education verification and the report was sent to me by the third party. When I checked the report I realized I gave the wrong month of graduation (5/2006 instead of 4/2006) by mistake. Even though its small difference the report indicates the dates are wrong. Do I have to be concerned about this? What may be best explanation I can give my HR if they get back to me? I hope it will not cost my job for this silly mistake of mine after clearing several intensive tech rounds.
